Today I decided to take that “Road less travelled” as stated by Robert Frost. Not quite as Mr. Frost described but should I take the main highway with trucks and traffic or the unknown county road? Taking a chance that at least the road surface was cyclable, I chose the county road. Miles and miles without a vehicle of any type provided enjoyable solitude where I was able to listen to the various calls of the sound birds, see hawks circling overhead and ride down the middle if I wanted. (Yes, keeping an eye in my review mirror.) To my surprise, the road was smooth for all but about the final 3 miles. But………
There was wind, wind and more wind. Rather than a tail wind, this was a direct headwind. Ended up changing my speed on a smooth uphill from 11mph to 8 mph. And, oh, how I dislike needing to pedal hard when the road is a smooth downhill.
Since I took that road less travelled, I wasn’t on the highway indicating “Welcome to Indiana – Crossroads of America”. Here is hopefully the necessary proof. I was not going back the 17 miles to take the official picture of the official sign.
The countryside has changed more and more. Yes, there are still farms but more and more deciduous, and even some, evergreen forests.
In the towns I’ve passed through I’ve seen people’s creative lawn art. Seeing this one, I thought it was time to share one of the more creative ones with you. The slant was due to my picture taking ability while holding onto a bicycle in the wind.
Today was a milestone to me — I have passed 1,000 miles on my adventure!
Tomorrow I’m headed from Rockville to Indianapolis Indiana. I have an appointment for a bike tune-up. Nothing major wrong but thinking a tune-up is in order.
