Day 26 – Highs and Lows; One Great System; New Friends

Into Ohio

The day started off on a fair note. Yes, rain, but a relatively even ride the first 20 miles. Then a rec path was picked up and oh was that great for another 12 miles or so. Got outside of Dayton and the path disappeared. I thought I had the route known but found out I sure did not. After a brief reprieve from the rain, it started up again, which made using the map app on the phone a tad difficult. I managed to get myself lost in Dayton and spent probably an hour getting out of town. But once I found the rec path again, an easier part of the ride was made difficult by heavy rain and headwind.

Just your average families out for a stroll by the river. Pa and another goose and gander are just out of the picture frame.
Part of the Rails to Trails system

I was totally amazed at the Rails to Trails system in Ohio and especially in Xenia. Over 340 miles of rec paths leading out of xenia. The most in one system in the US. I was greeted by an Avs fan we met in Hume, Vinnie, and his dad Athan. It was nice to sit down to dinner with someone else and chat about the ride and share other stories. Athan mentioned how the towns along the rec paths, which used to be train stops, have been able to survive past the railroad days by catering to the cycling community. Vinnie and I did a video for his YouTube channel called “If You Ever”. In my case, wanted to ride a bicycle across America.

Tomorrow will be almost totally on a Rails to Trails path from Xenia to Reynoldsburg, Ohio
