Day 3 – The First All Rural Day

Who Dat?

They ignore semis, pick-ups, and any car, but a bicycle; now that’s worth stopping eating to take a look!

Made it through two states today – albeit Nebraska was less than 5 miles. Day started off pretty good; no rain, snow or wind. Crusied right along until I headed south to US-36 and Saint Francis at Haigler, NE. The road was less traveled with only the sounds of the birds to hear. Long rollers and a 20+mph head wind with little or no grade guidelines. Ugh!

Some great rural America though. Small towns that were once bustling with farming and ranching but have long since seen healthier times. But just about town showed the pride of the residents with a well-maintained park on or close to the highway.

Miles and miles as far as I could see of what used to be fields that now were abandoned. Their farmhouses and barns have seen better days as well. I wonder if there just was no one interested in inheriting the longtime family ranch or farm. Still others thriving with cattle and crops. Some mega new homes and barns.

Tomorrow heading to Oberlin, KS.
