Day 4 – Not what I expected

Staying in McDonald Kansas

This is the house across the street from the Bison Inn, a wonderful inn with history galore from the past.

Unfortunately, the weather is not what was predicted from last week. It is absolutely great for the ranchers and farmers who have not had measurable moisture since October — but awful for a cycler (me). Temp in high 30’s, low 40’s and rain. Throw in some wind from the south just to make sure I stay put. And that is what I’m doing for a day to two.

I started the day riding out of St. Francis but within 5 miles knew it was not a day to cycle. I hitched a ride to Bird City where I warmed up at a fun little coffee shop in the rear of the grocery store. The rain stopped so I thought I’d head out again only to realize that today was just not a day to push on. Since there was no lodging in Bird City, I tried to hitch a ride to McDonald. Luckily a state trooper stopped by, made sure I wasn’t wanted for something and called the local sheriff who had a pick-up truck and could haul me and my bicycle to the Bison Inn. Weather is not supposed to improve until Friday when the rain is supposed to stop, and temp get into the low 80’s. So, I’ll be here tomorrow as well. I ended up rather ill so not pushing it was a good idea
