Since I ended my route on the east coast at the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk, I decided to start my west coast route at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Yes, I could have walked over rocks to actually touch my toes in the Pacific, but since it was the beginning of the day and I was dry, I decided it wise to simply start my trip east by crossing over the Pacific via the GGB.
Diane, my brother and sister-in-law; Rick and Beth; and their faithful companion Baji. What great support to have for my adventure.
Although the ride started out in the fog, within a couple miles we cycled our way out into clear, blue skies.
My nephew Luke lives in the Bay area and has cycled a lot of the area. He graciously volunteered to help guide me through the city and onward east. I think I’d still be circling around the whole San Francisco/Oakland metropolis if it weren’t for Luke’s guidance!
I did break the Bay area ride into two days. This was a short one – 22 miles to get me to Point Richmond. Tomorrow I’ll head from Point Richmond to Fairfield, CA.
