Day 30 – A nice day of rest

For some reason my Day 28 blog ended up after the Day 16 blog. I haven’t a clue how it happened or how to have it after Day 27. But if you’d like to read about the end of my 4th week, that is where it is.

Here is something I put in that blog that I wanted to be sure those of you following me knew. I want to let you know how you can send me your thoughts or a question about anything relating to this adventure. From the pledge (last) page, Put in your name and e-mail info. Put zero in for pledge amount and the name any non-profit you want. Write a message and send it. With any luck, I’ll get it and can respond to your email address.

My First Podcast

While in Hume, Illinois I met a great guy, Vinnie Vinolus. He does a podcast called “If you ever want to ——” He thought it would be a good one to do with me as his guest on “If you ever want to ride a bicycle across America.” It was a fun interview and you can see it at: If You Ever Want to Cycle Across America (30 May ’22) He and his dad are just two of the wonderful people I’ve met along this adventure.

It was a good day to just unwind and not worry about how far I have gone or how far I need to go. Having Diane join me was so good for my heart and soul.

Some random thought about embarking on a long solo bicycle trip.

Tube or tubeless tires. I started the ride with tubeless but carry tubes. Glad I did. I think I broke the seal on my rear tire early on the trip. I have an electric air pump with me but could not get it to re-seal the tire to the rim. So, I put in a tube. Although both the front and rear tires stay inflated throughout the day, the rear tubed tire now seems to hold air better than the front tubeless overnight. For me the jury is still out. I imagine I’ll have more thoughts on this throughout the ride.

I have time and time again enjoyed the wide variety of homes I’ve passed. I could have taken hundreds of pictures (and barely be out of Kansas if I had stopped to take them) of the homes. Homesteaded or century old homes that have shown their age and lack of upkeep, homes just as old that have been kept up with paint, new siding, new windows and a well-kept yard, large homes that are mini mansions built on acres of manicured yards, and homes built in the last couple of decades. Subdivisions which seem between here and there that are rural but have the character of an urban life.

No travel plans for tomorrow. Another day to let the body rest before continuing through the rolling Appalachians.
