Right on the highway. And back then the highway sure wasn’t like it is today. What is it? A home, a miner’s shack? A stagecoach stop? Just some of those random thoughts as I rode past on my way to Ely, Nevada.
Once upon a time both gold and silver were mined in this part of Nevada. Not only is there this large operation, which now looks abandoned, but there were many smaller mines dotting the route. The train tracks do look as if they’ve been kept up. They follow the highway going into Ely, but seemed to come out of nowhere.
Not only saw some wildlife but also ran into some rain and lightning, which fortunately was in the distance.
Heading to the Nevada/Utah border tomorrow. No town, just the Border Inn where we’ll be staying.
