Today was a lot of climbing. For the most part, it wasn’t too bad. Unfortunately, I could not ride on US-50 since they made it into a “Freeway” which does not allow non-motorized anything. Too bad when a US highway is made into the interstate or a freeway, a non-motorized route alongside isn’t included. The above photo is the view back towards San Francisco.
The El Dorado Trail travels along the old Southern Pacific Railroad and Michigan/California Railroad. The trail runs from the Sacramento County/El Dorado County Line to Camino in the Gold Country foothills. It was a bit longer to use, but well worth it. It was an uphill grade just about the total way east.
I found it to be a nice coincidence that I was on the western end of the Pony Express Trail seeing as how I was at the eastern end of the trail in Missouri.
As I came around the bend, there it was – tomorrow’s objective.
I’ll be headed to Carson City, Nevada. Unlike today which was pretty much climbing. About half the route tomorrow will be up -hill or 1 believe climbing and the rest relatively flat or mild uphill pull.
